2022 JCI Academy Eligibility


ATTENTION: Overseas Delegates must arrive in Odawara on September 15th and depart on September 24th.

It is mandatory to attend all sessions and events of the JCI Academy in order to graduate from it, including the Homestay Program and Graduation Ceremony.

The following requirements must be met in order to attend the 2022 JCI Academy:


Application to the JCI Academy:


- Each National Organization may submit only one applicant. There are no alternative or substitute candidates.

- All the applications must be done online at

- For the application to be considered valid, the applicant must have received an official online endorsement letter signed by his/her National President. JCI will provide a template for the endorsement letter.

- Applications must be completed during the registration period, starting on1 February and submitted by the deadline of 31 of March (by 23:59 GMT). JCI will not extend the deadline for any National Organization.

- For an application to be considered complete, it must include: a fully completed application form, a high-quality headshot photo of the candidate, a scanned copy of the first page of the candidate’s valid passport, an endorsement letter from their National President, and any other document required.


Status of Applicant’s National Organization


- Only fully affiliated National Organizations may submit applicants to the JCI Academy. Candidates from Potential or Provisional National Organizations cannot participate.

- The applicant’s National Organization must be in good financial standing, as determined by the JCI Constitution, by April 15. This will be required at the time of approval or rejection of the candidate.  National Organizations with payment plans approved by JCI Secretary General that are regularly paying their installment by the time of approval or rejection of the candidate are considered in good financial standing.

- In addition to good financial standing, the National Organization must also be in good standing with JCI when the registration period closes.


Who is eligible to apply to the JCI Academy?


- Only current National Board Officers are eligible to apply for the Academy.

- Current appointed National Executive Committee members are also eligible, on the condition that they have served as elected officers of the National Board in the past.

- Current National Presidents or Past National Presidents cannot apply to the Academy.

- Applicants who are incoming National and/or Deputy President are preferred.

- Applicants must not have participated in any previous JCI Academy.

- Applicants should have at least three years of experience as members of JCI organizations in their respective National Organizations.

- The applicant must be able to speak and comprehend the English language proficiently. Translators and/or translating equipment will not be available or accepted during the Academy.

- JCI may request English proficiency certificates or other requirements from the applicant. The candidate may not appeal this process.

- The applicant must be in a good health condition due to the intense schedule. It is strongly recommended that each participant have clean bill of health from a physician before traveling to attend the Academy.

- The upper age limit for an applicant for the JCI Academy is 38 years-old by 31 December of the same year as that Academy cycle.

- The only exception is for an incoming elected National President or Deputy President who may be 39 years-old during the Academy year. He/she may serve for the next two years as National President and then as National Immediate Past President.


Applicant’s Commitments


- Applicants must commit to and attend the entire Academy program. (This includes orientation, the complete Academy program, Graduation Ceremony and the final Farewell Event). The head trainer, together with the Academy organizers and JCI, may determine if an applicant has failed to fulfill this requirement.

- Applicants must commit to provide accurate and valid documents to JCI and/or the Academy Organizers as needed.

- Applicants must commit to serving the organization for at least two additional years upon graduation (Example: For the 2022 Academy, the applicant must be able to serve during 2023 and 2024).

- Applicants shall be responsible for their roundtrip transportation fare between their home/origin and Odawara and all incidental costs associated with their travel including meals, souvenirs and accommodation.  JCI Japan and JCI Odawara shall be responsible for the accommodation and meals of applicants from September 19 - 23.

- Under no circumstances, JCI Japan is responsible for the applicant before and after the stipulated dates of the JCI Academy.

- Candidates are requested to respect the Academy Organizers’ instructions, public spaces and the culture of the country. Organizers may sanction or expel participants if there is any verbal or physical misconduct or harassment from the participant directed towards other participants, the Organizers, JCI Japan members, stakeholders or any other citizen in general.


National Organization’s Commitments


- National Organizations are committed to immediately inform JCI if a candidate is having any problems that impede their ability to participate in any part of, or all of, the Academy program. In addition to informing JCI, National Organizations must also explain the reasoning behind these problems.

- After the Academy has ended, National Organizations must report to the Organizers that the participant arrived safe and sound to his/her country of origin.


Eligibility waiver


1. JCI Secretary General, in agreement with the JCI Academy Organizers and the Headtrainer, could waive any of the above JCI Academy Eligibility items for specific cases.


Hybrid Format

1. In case the JCI Academy has hybrid or online format, participants must follow the above eligibility requirement and take an active part in all modules of the program to graduate from the JCI Academy. The JCI Academy Organizers and the Headtrainer will control and take decisions in each specific case.
