Global Youth Empowerment Fund Nears Final Decisions for the Funds Third Year by Selecting Top 20 Projects

12 July 2018, St. Louis, USA-- The Global Youth Empowerment Fund; a partnership of JCI (Junior Chamber International) and the UN SDG Action Campaign, offers grants, financing and training to five youth-led projects and social enterprises that advance the Global Goals for Sustainable Development in local communities around the world. In its third year of operation, the Fund is nearing the final decisions of third cycle grantees. After a rigorous review process, the Top 20 projects have been shortlisted for review and consideration by the Global Youth Empowerment Fund Board of Trustees.

This group of 20 projects comes from 16 different countries and features initiatives that will create positive change while advancing the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, addressing 13 out of the 17 Global Goals. Each project is ambitious and acts for sustainable development in its own unique way. With financial help from the Fund, one project could affect the lives of more than 7,000 individuals on average.

These 20 projects were selected from hundreds that were submitted during the application round in April. With more than US $4.2 million worth of funding requested for grants this year, the Funds Board of Trustees has the distinct challenge of identifying which projects will receive funding with the resources available.

The Funds Board of Trustees will review the Top 20 projects over the course of the next two weeks and make their final decision during the Board of Trustee meeting on 24 July at the JCI Global Partnership Summit in New York City.

“We’re thrilled to see so many young people all around the world taking action in their local communities,” said JCI Secretary General Arrey Obenson. “It is an honor to play our small part in empowering these young people as they take the future into their own hands.”

The announcement of the 2018-2019 grantees will be at the Opening Keynote for the 2018 JCI Global Partnership Summit in New York.
