Junior Chamber International Honors Outgoing JCI President and Welcomes the 2020 JCI President, Itai Manyere

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

11 December 2019, St. Louis, USA — Each December during the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Handover & Flag Ceremony, JCI members travel to the World Headquarters in St. Louis, USA to celebrate the organization while honoring the 2020 JCI President. During the handover ceremony, the 2019 JCI President, Alexander Tio, will deliver a farewell address as the 2020 JCI President, Itai Manyere, will give his welcoming remarks during an intimate ceremony.

After both organization leaders address the audience, JCI will take a detour outside for the ceremonial takedown of the Outgoing President’s Indonesian flag to raise the Zimbabwe flag in honor of JCI President-Elect Manyere. As a one year to lead organization, the Zimbabwe flag will remain outside of the JCI World Headquarters for the entire year as JCI President-Elect Manyere serves as the organization’s president.

Serving as the 75th JCI President, JCI President-Elect Itai Manyere was elected and inaugurated as the 2020 JCI President during the 2019 JCI World Congress in Tallinn, Estonia. Born 37 years ago in Gweru, Zimbabwe, JCI President-Elect Manyere joined JCI Harare, Zimbabwe in 2004. He served on the Local Board and as JCI Harare Local President in 2006. From 2008, he served on the JCI Zimbabwe National Board in various capacities, eventually becoming the 2014 JCI Zimbabwe National President.

At the international level, JCI President-Elect Manyere served as the 2015 JCI Vice President for Africa and the Middle East and was later appointed to the 2016 JCI Skills Development Committee, 2017 JCI Growth and Development Committee for Africa and the Middle East and elected the 2018 JCI Executive Vice President for Africa and the Middle East. Currently, JCI President-Elect Manyere serves as the Chief Executive Assistant to the 2019 JCI President.

As JCI President-Elect Manyere leads in 2020, his theme is Bridge the Gap. He firmly believes, “As young people, we are responsible to shape the future we want and it is up to us to take advantage of the opportunities presented. We must turn around the fortunes of present-day society to deliver a tomorrow fit for future generations to enjoy.”

Join us as we celebrate the legacy of our former president and the future goals of our 2020 JCI President. This ceremony will take place at 11:00 CST at the JCI World Headquarters, located in the Chesterfield neighborhood, on Wednesday 11 December. JCI will live stream this ceremony on Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/jciwhq.
