JCI (Junior Chamber International) and the United Nations Millennium Campaign Take Step Toward Formalizing Relationship

On Friday, July 26th at the 2013 JCI Global Partnership Summit at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, JCI (Junior Chamber International) and the United Nations Millennium Campaign signed a letter of intent on a path to formalize their relationship based on youth engagement. The UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were established in 2000 and JCI committed to advancing the MDGs in 2004. JCI members conduct grassroots needs analysis and work toward creating sustainable solutions that advance the MDGs by the 2015 deadline.

JCI and the UN Millennium Campaign are mutually invested in creating a better, more equitable world by advancing the MDGs as the target deadline approaches, and uniting the global community in the creation and implementation of the post 2015 global development agenda. The following key items will be explored through this partnership:

  1. Motivate young people in taking targeted action and creating sustainable results within the last 1000 days of the MDG deadline, by using the JCI Active Citizen Framework.
  2. Strengthen the voices and actions of young people in the development and implementation of the post 2015 global development agenda using the MY World 2015 global survey and the World We Want 2015 online engagement platform.
  3. Invest in future generations today by developing and launching a Global Youth Engagement Fund.

JCI and the UN Millennium Campaign are excited to announce this emerging relationship, providing development opportunities that empower young people to create sustainable global impact and providing support to JCI members in an effort to increase impact on a global scale.

About JCI: JCI is a worldwide membership-based nonprofit organization of young active citizens ages 18 to 40 who are dedicated to creating positive change in their communities. Through projects in more than 5,000 communities across more than 100 countries, members seek targeted solutions to local problems, creating a global impact.

About UN Millennium Campaign: The UN Millennium Campaign was established by the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in 2002 in order to support citizen participation in achieving the Millennium Development Goals, adopted by 189 world leaders from rich and poor countries, as part of the Millennium Declaration which was signed in 2000. The Campaign advocates for increased efforts to effectively promote greater support for the MDGs, as it is more critical than ever that they remain a priority in the political and public agenda.
