Congress Delegates Collaborate For a Better World

On Friday, November 8, Congress attendees learned more about how to collaborate with likeminded individuals, partners and fellow active citizens to expand their mutual impact.

With a room full of vibrant delegates dancing, cheering and wearing their Area team t-shirts, Spotlight JCI, JCI’s premier World Congress trivia game started with great excitement. Led by two team captains, each Area team competed with five rounds of questions testing their JCI knowledge of events, programs, partners, culture and even the recently adopted 2014-2018 JCI Strategic Plan. The competition was fierce and the winning team turned out to be Team Americas, captained by Bolivar Batista from JCI Dominican Republic and Angelica Lam from JCI Panama. Right after Spotlight JCI concluded, delegates packed into the first ever 2013 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) Workshop: Collaborating for Impact. Hosted by 2010 JCI President Roland Kwemain, each TOYP Honoree shared their story of impact with a small group of participants and took time to discuss the challenges and opportunities surrounding their work and their plans for the future.

In the afternoon, the official business of the JCI World Congress concluded with General Assembly III: Appointments, where the 2014 JCI Board of Directors along with the 2014 JCI Appointees found out their assigned countries and committees for the upcoming year. Delegates then flocked to the Citibank Hall once again for the 2013 JCI Awards Ceremony featuring the 2013 JCI TOYP Honorees. For the first time, this ceremony not only revealed all of the JCI award winning projects, members and organizations from the past year, but also showcased the TOYP Honorees and their inspiring stories. Hosted by JCI President Chiara Milani and 2013 JCI Vice Presidents Lillian Rolon and Francois Bégin, winners were so excited to receive their awards while hearing loud cheers of support from the audience and also accompanied by lively music from an onstage live band. To celebrate this fun night, JCI the Netherlands hosted their Dutch Night party in the foyer of Citibank Hall immediately following the ceremony.
