Congress Delegates Strengthen Connection Between Global Societies

On Friday, November 28, JCI members and friends focused on increasing global connection through sharing best practices and highlighting accomplishments from 2014.

Delegates from all four areas gathered for the JCI World Congress trivia game show, Spotlight JCI. Area teams wore Spotlight JCI t-shirts and cheered on their team captains. The eight team captains, two from each Area, answered questions about JCI history, news and current events, the JCI 100th Anniversary, JCI partners and upcoming 2015 JCI events. Following Spotlight JCI, the second annual JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) Workshop: Collaboration for Impact united more than 150 delegates interested in spending time with the 2014 JCI TOYP Honorees. Hosted by 2013 JCI TOYP Honoree from the United Kingdom, John Loughton, the workshop fostered dynamic discussions about how to take local action for global impact. Attendees learned more about each JCI TOYP Honoree’s personal story of positive change and explored how their work relates to the three stages of community development as outlined by the JCI Active Citizen Framework, Health and Wellness, Education and Economic Empowerment and Sustainability. 2014 JCI President Shine Bhaskaran joined the workshop near the end to give special thanks to the ten honorees for their dedication to impact and sharing their time and stories with Congress delegates all week in Leipzig.

In the afternoon, General Assembly III concluded the official business of the 2014 JCI World Congress. The 2014 JCI Board of Directors announced the assigned JCI Areas and countries for the 2015 JCI Board of Directors. Special committees and official JCI appointments were also announced allowing a new group of JCI members to take leadership positions for the year of the JCI 100th Anniversary. Then delegates took some time to get ready for a fantastic night of celebration and recognition at the 2014 JCI Awards Ceremony: featuring the 2014 JCI TOYP Honorees. Throughout the ceremony, a live band performed upbeat music as JCI National and Local Presidents accepted their JCI Awards trophies. Members danced and cheered as they accepted their official recognition for their actions in 2014 at the local and global level. A short video played about each of the 2014 JCI TOYP Honorees showcasing their story of impact and how they continue to create positive change in their home community and around the world. Leaving inspired and proud of their accomplishments, ceremony attendees then headed to Bavarian Oktoberfest to experience German culture through traditional drinks, food and music.
