Purpose

PURPOSES
The purposes of the project “Dalat’s Sendling Love” aim to help:
1. Target 1: Citizens & the underprivileged in Ho Chi Minh City -> Purpose: Reducing the suffer of hunger among Ho Chi Minh citizens and the underprivileged people

2. Target 2: Farmers in Lam Dong Province -> Purpose: Reducing the food surplus in agriculture farming in Lam Dong province.

3. Target 3: All volunteers & JCI mebers -> Purpose: Gathering, Packaging and Providing food and necessaries in a safe way during Covid quarantine

4. Target 4: Local medcal team-> Purpose: Supporting the local Covid fighting medical team in terms of food, water, sanitation, …, and Covid clothes protection.

ACTION TAKEN
- SDG 01: No Poverty & SDG 02: No Hunger - Organizing 5 Food volunteering events to donate 70,4 tons of agricultural products to Ho Chi Minh City and Da Lat City. Detail actions:
1. Organizing volunteers and members in small group to package food
2. Harvesting and collecting food from agriculture field
3. Packaging & transporting food from Da Lat City to Ho Chi Minh City
4. Packaging & transporting food to the underprivileged people in Da Lat City
5. Creating an emergency Food Fund

SDG 03: Good Health and Well-being: JCI Da Lat donated a total of 231 blood units. (1 blood unit is either 250ml, 350ml, or 450ml)
- Organizing 2 blood donation events on on 09.05.2021 (collected 74 blood units) and 28.08.2021 (collected 157 units)

SDG 06: Clean Water & Sanitation
- Bottling 300 mouthwash bottles and transport them to medical teams in Covid check points

Overview

ROOT CAUSES

1. Covid Pandemic is causing a food surplus in Lam Dong Province:
a. Farmers cannot sell their agricultural products to market due to quarantine and broken logistics.
b. The citizens and the underprivileged people cannot access the food supply because of quarantine at home in Ho Chi Minh City.

2. Covid pandemic casts heavy burden on medical and government sector:
a. The local Covid fighting medical team needs many support in terms of food, water, sanitation, and covid clothes protection
b. The hospital, doctors and nurses need more blood supply from the community to treat Covid patients

OVERVIEW

Ho Chi Minh City citizens are suffering a severe lack of food and necessaries, especially the underprivileged people. There are an estimated number of 28,000 hungry people. JCI Da Lat has organized 186 volunteer included: 38 JCI members and 148 volunteers, to harvest, package, and transport 70,4 tons of agricultural products to Ho Chi Minh City and Da Lat City.

JCI Da Lat also reduces the financial burden on farmers: Buying agricultural products at the discounted prices reduces the financial loss for farmers. Meanwhile, farmers also support the project by donating their agricultural products through JCI Da Lat

JCI Da Lat donated a total of 231 blood units through 2 blood donation events. (1 blood unit is either 250ml, 350ml, or 450ml)

JCI Da Lat organized 5 volunteering sessions in different times to adapt to the various levels of Covid pandemic: 12/7/2021, 18/7/2021, 9/8/2021, 11/8/2021, 19/8/2021.

Sending Love Project succeeded in collaborating with 11 parties among private sector and government sector:

1. The amount of donated food is a 70,4 tons
2.The total donated fund is 298,635,000 vnd (approx. 13,105.3 usd)
3. The amount of other items: 300 Covid protection clothes, 2,5 tons of rice, 180 food portion, 1000 eggs, 200 bottles of fish sauce, 3000 bottles of mouthwash
4. The total amount of mouthwash bottles is 300 bottles

2. Choosing the right agricultural products for long-lasting and easy to transport and handle purposes
3. Writing harvesting, handling, and packaging process in detail so all members and leaders can follow in the future
