Purpose
To provide public schools/daycare centers that are isolated with access to reading materials for both the students (recreational purposes) and teachers (academic/instructional purposes) to use.
Overview
The Grant A Wish Project - Mini Library edition aimed to bring books to educational institutions that were far-flung or usually out of the radar for donations. We focused on providing books that were non-academic (not relating to any of the specific subjects taught in the curriculum; no practice tests/quizzes embedded – purely for recreational reading) in order to encourage the students to genuinely be interested in learning to read.
Although the books given were not academic in content, the teachers were also able to benefit from them as instructional aids during their English, Language/Writing classes.
Results
Turned over a total of 10 Mini Libraries to 3 schools in Carcar in December, and 2 Daycares in Barangay Guba & Budla-an in January (total of 650-700 students reached)
Recommendations
- Reach out to further areas in Cebu or visit Olanggo Island, where we have existing partnerships from previous Zugbuana projects
- Hold a seminar for the teachers and staff after the turnover on Gender Awareness, Children's Rights etc. in partnership with other organizations
