Purpose
The aim of the project was to show the lived experiences of 4 young leaders with disabilities. To show that anyone and everyone should be a leader.
Overview
Shattering Stereotypes: Young, Active, and Disabled is a documentary filmed by JCI Malta, with the support of the Ministry for Social Inclusion, Voluntary Organisations, and Consumer Rights – through the Freedom to Live Scheme.
Through this documentary, we met with 4 young disabled people who are active in different ways within their different communities, and we got an intro from 2 time TOYP honoree Amy Camilleri Zahra to ground our documentary.
Results
We launched the project to an audience on the 17th of February 2023, and we had 35 people in the room, including members of Government. After the launch we networked and discussed through a Q&A about leadership and disability. The project was well-received, and our Ministerial partners were impressed by our work. Following the physical launch, we launched the documentary on social media, gathering many views in 24 hours. Our work was also shared through media outlets.
The project was a successful one.
Recommendations
To try and show the documentary in a cinema, to reach a wider audience, and to keep the conversation about leadership going.
