Provide local manpower to help out at the 4th annual Get Your Rear in Gear 5K/1 Mile Run/Walk for colon cancer.

The W-S Jaycees Junior Chamber provided volunteers to assist Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with the run/walk event. This event was held on Saturday, 3/8/14 in the afternoon from 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm at the BB&T Ballpark (Winston Salem Dash stadium) located at 951 Ballpark Way, Winston Salem, NC 27101. All volunteers received a free T-shirt on the day of the race (The additional volunteer opportunities scheduled for the evening of March 7, 2014, the evening before the race, that were intended to assist with packet pick-up at Fleet Feet (50 Miller St, Winston-Salem) were cancelled due to inclement weather). The Colon Cancer Coalition oversees Get Your Rear in Gear races across the country, which increase awareness, raise funds, and provide support for those whose lives have been affected by colon cancer, currently the second leading cause of cancer deaths. These races and events are designed to unite people, cities, and states throughout the USA and to encourage individuals of all ages to get screened.

Regarding a future chairperson for this or a comparable project, the individual should plan on the following: - possess effective speaking, writing, leadership, and overall people skills - be prepared to roll up his/her sleeves to accomplish physical tasks during setup and over the course of the day - be eager to meet goals and tasks as they become necessary; before, during, and after the completion of the race - possess ability to make quick decisions, as they become necessary and helpful. ** Suggested change for future race: The W-S Jaycees may want to consider having an independent facebook page for: A.) runners/walkers and B.) volunteers --- access to Get Your Rear in Gear page w/Goings, Maybes, Declines, etc. was helpful, but was no longer accessible to Project Chair (self) and other Jaycees' members as of ~ 72 hrs. before the event. Having access to a full list of runners/walkers up until start of race is helpful with communication, planning, etc. as changes in plans take place up until race day can affect team formation. **

No financial losses, injuries, or issues to report. The entire day was a great success for the Winston-Salem area !
