To create awareness in the local society of the existence of Sarikei Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) that hosts 98 mentally retarded and physically-disabled people (kids and young adults)
2017 Run For Care was one of the biggest events that JCI Mandarin Repok Sarikei has organised with different stakeholders in Sarikei. They were Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) and Sarikei District Council. This 5-km run was aimed to attract at least 300 participants. However, it came to a pleasant surprise when we highly exceeded our target and reached 800 participants (from Sarikei and Sibu) in the end. Those who participated knew that this Run For Care was organised to raise fund for PDK, for the mentally retarded and physically-disabled people. With the 7 main sponsors found, every participant was entitled to a certificate, medal, t-shirt, iced Milo drink and breakfast (bottled water and bun) on the event day. At the same time, they also had the chance to practise healthy lifestyle with family and friends by running on a beautiful Sunday morning while doing charity. This has proven that Sarikei local community is still a caring society via the support shown to our event. We even awarded money incentives to Top 6 runners in each men and women categories with RM350 as the Grand Prize. Overall, we had successfully raised RM5000 for PDK!
From a target of 300 participants only, we had successfully achieved 800 participants in this charity run. The participants' age ranged from as young as 3 years old to 75 years old. With strong support from all stakeholders of the community, we had raised RM5000 for PDK.
More volunteers are needed in order to sustain such huge event.
