As part of JCI Lagos City activities in the area of health, we have conceived and initiated what we termed “Project Smile”, which is aimed at providing healthcare support to indigent or otherwise vulnerable children, mothers and the aged in identified communities and hospitals.
We have provided medical equpiments to the paedtratic Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, organised blood donation, provided free medical consultation in Agege, Olusosun and Ifako Titun in the last five years.
This year, we carried out the project at Oregun in Onigbongbo Local Developmennt Authoirity. We did infrastuctural intevention by renovating and repainting the waiting room, Changed Ceilings, Restored the Burnt OPT Department, changed doors and refurbished the toilet of the Oregun Primary Health Care Center at 34, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos.
We also provided free medical and dental check up, consultation and dispense drugs to children, pregnant women and aged members of the community.
We were able to restore the aesthetics and hygiene conditions of the primary health center. Created publicity about the Primary Health Center as a first response center for health needs of members of the committee.
Secured the attention of the Executive Chairman of the Local Government to the needs of the Health center which weree beyond our budget.
We were able to get seasoned and experienced Medical personel which included physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses and nutritionists to attend to over 300 people and provide required drugs for their ailments free of any cost.
The Project needs more sponsors in view of the high budget.
Increase the scope of partnership and tap into the mass of medical volunteers and NGO's interested in such medical outreach.
Increase the publicity for the project.
