Elections are an important mechanism in democratic and peace process .
Their purpose is to provide citizens with an opportunity to choose freely their political leaders and allocate power peacefully.
However underlying tensions in the society and high stake competition can also result in violence and fraudulous elections
Based on that, and in order to harmonize our efforts to achieve greater impact,we will have a day of action for peace is possible.
This project was borne out of the incessant violence and killings in Warri, Effurun and Nigeria at large as a result of the preparations/campaigns for Nigeria general elections.
The activities carried out includes:
48 hours Social media campaigns advocating for peace and the need for citizens to vote.
A 4-hour peace walk/rally was done by members of JCI Warri and her sister collegiate local organization JCI Petroleum Training Institute Effurun Warri, Public address system was used in spreading the message of peace along the major roads in Warri. Flyers and placards were distributed to drive the message of peace home.
The campaign created an awareness on the need for peace especially as the rally was well attended and propagated by young active citizens of JCI Warri and JCI PTI. Indigens/Citizens were motivated on the need to vote right and safeguard their future and that of their children.
The peacewalk/rally attracted young vibrant citizens to join the organization.
1.Peace walk should be held frequently to sensitize citizens and remind them of the importance of peaceful coexistence in our society.
2. Media houses should freely air and spread the message of peace.
3. There should be seminars on the importance on peace not just during elections.
