We, JCI Lattakia, decided to conduct Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project to raise awareness of CSR concept among companies, employees, JCI members and individuals in general. The project came as a response to the current economic situation in Syria and to JCI commitment to CSR which is poorly understood and is often confused with charity work. The project targeted creating connection and collaboration among companies and social associations through a conference thrown by JCI Lattakia. Next, we motivated local NGOs to present project proposals to the companies as they have always had a very long and actual experience in analyzing the community needs. Later, we started a competition for corporates to take up one or more of these proposals and fulfill their duties to conduct effective CSR projects. Eventually, we honored the top three CSR projects in a public event with honorable mentions to each and every participating company.

Actions Taken

Held Local conference and built communication bridges between companies and NGOs
Started a competition in which companies competed to sponsor projects that embodies CSR principles effectively
Promotion and advocacy through a designated website, social media platforms, local press, TV interviews, and billboards around the city.

30 companies, 15 NGOs and 50 JCI members attend the conference and get knowledge of CSR concept. Additionally, the companies and NGOs which attended the conference got in touch and started cooperation to achieve sustainability of sponsoring projects for social associations. 5 NGOs projects were conducted by companies which participated in the competition. The projects included training for disabled people, equipped a laboratory by buying machine and kits and equipped a Barber shop for disable people who were trained to make men haircuts.

Paying more effort on enabling the NGOs planning tools to effectively create projects that align with CSR principles.
