ICC and JCI Agree to Update and Expand Agreement
JCI President Bruce Rector met yesterday with ICC Secretary General Maria Livanos Cattaui at the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) Headquarters in Paris. They discussed ways to update and expand the cooperation agreement signed by the two organizations in 1984. "I look forward to a fuller and more concrete working relationship between our organizations," pointed out President Rector. JCI Business Program Director Michael Kern and JCI Representative to ICC Isabelle Gille met with Anthony Parkes, Director of World Chambers Federation (WCF), to work on the details of the agreement. "I applaud the hard work of JCI Business Program Director Kern and JCI Representative to ICC Gille to pull together and move forward the basic points of our meeting and agreement today," President Rector said. What is ICC? ICC is a worldwide business organization. Its activities cover a broad spectrum, from arbitration and dispute resolution to making the case for open trade and the market economy system, business self-regulation, fighting corruption or combating commercial crime. Through its national committees, ICC has direct access to national governments all over the world. The organization's Paris-based international secretariat feeds business views into intergovernmental organizations on issues that directly affect business operations. As the voice of world business, ICC champions the global economy as a force for economic growth, job creation and prosperity. ICC speaks for world business when governments take up such issues as intellectual property rights, transport policy, trade law or the environment. Together with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), ICC helps some of the world's poorest countries to attract foreign direct investment. How will the agreement benefit JCI? The agreement, after it?s approved in its final form, may allow JCI to: ? Participate in the 3rd World Chambers Congress, which is an opportunity for JCI to develop contacts in countries without JCI national organizations ? Participate in the World Chambers Competition ? Use the World Chambers Network ? Promote ICC activities and membership ? Post ICC news on JCI?s website ? Conduct a survey to find out where chambers and chapters are working together and provide members with ideas and opportunities of potential cooperation ? Promote ICC?s participation in JCI Best Business Plan Competition ? Cooperate with ICC on JCI Entrepreneur of the Year and JCI Entrepreneur Days ? Have ICC technical experts as speakers at JCI national and international events ? Provide ICC and WCF publications to JCI Members 3rd World Chambers Congress in Quebec JCI President Rector was invited to speak at the 3rd World Chambers Congress.
