JCI Members Surpass MY World Vote Commitment

During the 2014 JCI Global Partnership Summit in New York City, JCI delegates convened at the United Nations Headquarters to discuss the upcoming deadline of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as well as the launch of the post-2015 development agenda.

It was during that Summit that JCI delegates committed to collect 10,000 MY World votes by September 2015.

The MY World campaign is a global initiative and survey aiming to gather the voices of active citizens of all ages, genders and backgrounds to help form and define the new development agenda for a better world.

Now, only nine months later, with five months left until the commitment deadline, JCI has collectively gathered 30,000 MY World votes.

JCI achieved this goal through engaging active citizens around the world and encouraging them to have a voice regarding what needs and challenges are present in their communities.

JCI National and Local Organizations have taken initiative to demonstrate the significance of the MY World campaign and its effect on the post-2015 development agenda in their communities through a variety of flagship projects.

JCI India hosted an aeromodelling show to bring awareness to the campaign’s purpose as well as unite the community. The show, with 5000 community members in attendance, was part of JCI Ankleshwar’s Trade and Fun Fair—an annual event held the past 12 years.

During the show, 500 plus students formed a human “MY World.” Spectators were able to cast MY World votes on pre-printed ballots; many students and community members took part in submitting their vote and taking action for a better world.

The event received local media attention from local news stations and newspapers such as TV9 Gujarati and GSTV.

JCI Sandton from South Africa took the MY World campaign to the local level by hosting a public debate with youth in the area as well as visiting a local school in Alexandra Township.

Through media interviews and panel discussions, JCI members advocated for education, connecting the message to the post-2015 development agenda’s purpose, securing 1000 MY World votes along the way.

Nearly 80% of the MY World votes being submitted are by respondents under the age of 30, demonstrating why JCI and like-minded organizations play such a crucial role in the success of the MY World Campaign.

You now have the opportunity as an organization or individual to compete in the Peoples’ Voices Challenge, a new portion of the MY World Campaign. This challenge encourages participants to access the MY World Global Conversation data and use the information to take action in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, organizing an event, social media rally or youth debate. Eight Peoples’ Voices awardees will be recognized during the UN General Assembly in New York City in September 2015.

With JCI members being 18–40 years old, the time is now for the young people of JCI and the world to rise up and embrace this opportunity to share their voice for a better future and a better world.

JCI continues to campaign for the collection of MY World votes, knowing that today’s challenges present tomorrows solutions.

Share your voice. Take the MY World survey today to take action for a better world and a better tomorrow.
