To honour up to ten young Zimbabweans excelling in their fields of endeavour and exhibiting the best attributes of young people in the country

Visión general

Pursuant to its mission to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change, JCI Zimbabwe recognised Ten (10) young Zimbabweans aged between 18 to 40 for excelling in their various fields of endeavour, through a national awards ceremony held on the 30th of July, 2011 at 7 Arts Theatre, in Avondale Harare. A glittering national ceremony, attended by the Honourable Minister of Youth Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment, JCI members and alumni, government officials, representatives of sponsors and JCI Zimbabwe partner organisation, the honourees and their invited guests was a culmination of a long process that started with the gathering of nominations launched in December 2010. Musician Prudence Mabhena, Businessmen Samuel Mudavanhu, Fungayi Moses Makoni, Munyaradzi Shadaya and Kudakwashe Bhiza, Pastor Evan Mawarire, Women’s Rights Activist Janah Ncube, Medical practitioner Pride Chigwedere, Cultural Entrepreneur Innocent Nkululeko Dube and Lawyer Errol Tapuwa Muzawazi were named as the 2011 honourees of the program. The program was held to formally recognize young people between the ages of 18 and 40 who excel in their chosen fields and create positive change, raising the status of socially responsible leaders in this world. Nominations were received, covering the following ten areas: 1. Business, economic and/or entrepreneurial accomplishment 2. Political, legal and/or governmental affairs 3. Academic leadership and/or accomplishment 4. Cultural achievement 5. Moral and/or environmental leadership 6. Contribution to children, world peace and/or human rights 7. Humanitarian and/or voluntary leadership 8. Scientific and/or technological development 9. Personal improvement and/or accomplishment and 10. Medical innovation


1. JCI Zimbabwe is urged to run this program on an annual basis 2. JCI Zimbabwe must consider creating the post of National Projects Director to oversee high magnitude projects such as this.


36 nominations were received in all categories, 19 entries were submitted for the JCI international competition, making up more than 10% of all entries received worldwide. 3 nominations made it into the worldwide top 30. The national ceremony became the most publicly attended JCI Zimbabwe event and placed the organisation in the main news headlines on national TV. Exposure for JCI Zimbabwe and its Local organisations JCI Zimbabwe created new partnerships in government, business and civic society, while consolidating existing new ones. New members joined JCI Zimbabwe as a result of the competition and its exposure.
