1. New donors to sign up as blood donors and start saving lives
2. Existing donors to continue to help us keep blood stocks healthy throughout the year
3. We need to maintain a regular supply of all blood groups and types so we can provide it to the hospitals and patients who need it.
4. Create awareness about blood donations

The demand for blood in Mauritius has been rising every year as fears of critically low blood banks, yet less people are donating with many people not knowing their blood type. With strong concerns of blood shortages of rare blood, group O negative. The Mauritius Blood Donor Association has warned that scarcity is being felt in the country and that to keep up with demand 97 per cent the population will depend on the other 2.5% who contribute blood, which is of “critical” concern.

From organ transplants to heart surgeries, today’s advanced medical care relies on blood transfusions. When one person donates a unit of blood, it can be separated into individual components to save multiple lives. Blood donors like you help meet the daily transfusion needs of cancer and surgery patients, accident and burn victims, newborns and mothers delivering babies, AIDS and sickle cell anemia patients, and many more.

Demand for blood has increased from 20,000 pints to 50, 000 pints over the last 20 years. We need it for transfusions, cancer patients and with road accidents which cause a concern therefore we need so much blood.

This project will also encourage active citizens in getting trained to be blood drive volunteers. By being a volunteer will help you become engaged in the life-saving mission and become involved in your local community.

Actions Taken

Awareness campaigns through posters & videos. 2. Train the trainers session and get more young active citizens in awareness sessions to be organised around the island.
Our awareness campaigns will contribute in having more people to know the importance of donating blood. Thus we will be targeting more donors to donate blood efficiently.

More understading of the blood donation process.
People of all walks of life need blood products. Some need it to get them through a serious event in their lives, like cancer or a dangerous pregnancy. Others have medical conditions which mean they need blood products regularly to stay alive or be healthy.
Why give blood?
Giving blood saves lives. The blood you give is a lifeline in an emergency and for people who need long-term treatments.
Many people would not be alive today if donors had not generously given their blood.

Most donors tell us that giving blood isn't as scary as they thought it would be. Feeling nervous?
With the awareness campaigns and meetings, more donors are now less scared and convinced to donate blood.

More awareness camps though the island.
More partners and reach more people.
