The purpose of the Save a Life project was to address the rising challenged of Teenage Pregnancy, Unsafe Abortion and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), Sexual and Gender Base Violence among young people in the Tamale Metropolis of Ghana which were revealed during a need analyses of secondary data from the Ghana Education Services and Ghana Health Services.This challenged contributes to school dropout especially among girls, infirmity and mortality among these young people.The cause of the is heightening situation is due to young people's lack of comprehensive knowledge and skills about their Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRHR) thus, the implementation of the Save A Life Project to empower them with right SRHR information, education and linkage to Youth Friendly SRHR services.


Key stakeholders who include the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health service highlighted with records from the schools and health centre respectively, the increasing situation of teenage pregnancy, unsafe abortion, STIs and Sexual and Gender base violence happening among students in the Basic Schools in the Tamale Metropolis. Hence, together with these stakeholders, JCI Tamale Premier facilitated the development of the Save a Life project to address the issues through a Sexual and Reproductive Health Education (SRHR) in schools. Experienced facilitated from two partners in the project (Ghana Health Service and Savana Signatures) were engaged to lead the session.Ghana Education Service on the other hand supported with the selection of the school for the project to be implemented. The session which adopted a child-centered approach, effectively engaged the young people on the aforementioned challenges on the causes and prevention. There were afterwards evaluated using a focus group discussion as well as one on one interviews to assess the level of impact after the session. Whiles the session was on going, teachers of the school were deeply involved to also acquire the knowledge, skills and attitude needed to effectively engage and support students about their SRHR. This approach was adopted to ensure sustainability of the project.


1. 160 students exposed to right based information and education on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Right (SRHR)
2. 160 students linked to Youth Friendly SRHR health centres and call centres for services and information respectively
3. 10 teachers developed positive attitude and comprehensive knowledge on young people's SRHR and effectively integrating it in mainstream lessons delivery


The Save a Life project proved effective and should the approach should be adopted and scaled up to save more lives of young people who are a huge resource to the world.
