From the Caribbean to the Cape: A Global Tapestry of Leadership and Impact

May 2025 marked another milestone chapter for JCI President Keisuke Shimoyamada, weaving together diplomatic encounters, entrepreneurial inspiration, and cultural reflection across the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East. From the tropical shores of Honduras to the scholarly halls of Beirut, his journey brought the mission of JCI to life: developing young leaders for a changing world.

Unity in the Tropics — Conference of America in Roatán, Honduras
President Keisuke’s first official participation in a JCI Area Conference began on the vibrant island of Roatán, Honduras, at the 2025 Conference of America. Speaking in Spanish, he energized delegates from across the region with a message of unity, responsibility, and purpose.

He actively contributed to cornerstone programs such as International Human Duties Day, the JCI President’s Session, and Implementing Impactful Projects with JCI RISE, sparking engagement across national and generational lines.

Social highlights, from Noche Hondureña to the Global Village, fostered deep cultural exchange.

Following the conference, he embarked on an official country visit, conducting RISE UP Talk Sessions in Tegucigalpa, touring the colonial center of Comayagua, and visiting the San Pedro Sula City Hall—experiencing firsthand how civic leadership and cultural legacy intersect.

Business, Diplomacy, and Belonging — Official Visit to JCI Paraguay

From May 15–19, President Keisuke visited Paraguay on an official mission to strengthen institutional partnerships. He began with interviews on major outlets such as 5 Días and America TV, highlighting JCI’s 110th anniversary and its role in advancing entrepreneurship. He met with the Embassy of Japan, the Vice President of Paraguay, and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, reinforcing diplomatic and economic ties.

In the evening, he delivered a keynote at Universidad Americana’s Young International Entrepreneur Event, inspiring local innovators with stories of global leadership and impact. The visit continued in Ciudad del Este, where he toured the Itaipú Binacional Dam and engaged with stakeholders at the PTI Foundation – Business Innovation Center. He also joined a 110th Anniversary Celebration hosted by JCI Paraguay, further deepening friendship with the local members. The journey concluded with a visit to Yguazú Waterfalls, a moment of reflection on nature, sustainability, and shared stewardship of the planet.

Cross-Continental Collaboration — Africa & The Middle East Conference in Durban, South Africa

From May 21–24, President Keisuke joined the Africa & The Middle East Conference (AMESA) in Durban, South Africa. In meetings such as the National Presidents Meeting, Conference Assemblies, and Creative Young Entrepreneur Finals, he engaged leaders on themes of innovation, equity, and inclusion.

He delivered remarks during JCI RISE programming and contributed to the International Human Duties initiative, emphasizing shared human responsibility across borders. From the AMESA Gala Dinner to Nations Night, cultural celebration met strategic vision in an event that exemplified the unity and diversity of the AMESA region.

Voices of Vision — Official Visit to JCI Zambia

From May 27–29, President Keisuke continued his African tour with an official visit to Zambia, hosted by JCI Zambia in Lusaka. He held strategic discussions with senior officials from the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts and the Ministry of Tourism, focusing on youth empowerment and sustainable collaboration. In a live interview on One Love Radio, he delivered a message of encouragement to Zambian youth, sharing JCI’s mission and global momentum. JCI Zambia’s commitment to local engagement and warm hospitality reflected the core of JCI’s glocal model—global mission, local action.

Resilience and Renewal — Official Visit to JCI Lebanon
President Keisuke’s May journey concluded in Beirut with an official visit to JCI Lebanon from May 30–31. Engaging with local members, he exchanged insights on Lebanon’s progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—with a focus on No Poverty, Quality Education, and Gender Equality. At the American University of Beirut, he held an inspiring conversation with the university president, reaffirming the role of education in transforming communities and advancing youth leadership. Despite the social and economic challenges Lebanon has faced, the dedication of its JCI members exemplified the enduring power of grassroots leadership and the universal spirit of active citizenship.

A Journey Beyond Borders
May 2025 was not only a month of meetings and speeches—it was a mosaic of human connection, shared values, and transformative energy.

From island nations to continental hubs, President Keisuke’s journey echoed one central truth: the heart of JCI lives not in buildings or titles, but in people—young leaders empowered to shape the future.
