8. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Why is there a 1-to-1 matching requirement?

This reflects the philosophy of the late Founder, Dato’ Dr. Tan Hian Tsin, to ensure local ownership and prudent expenditure.

    • If a project cannot raise the full match, a request for a lower ratio can be submitted for approval.
    • For large-scale infrastructure, matching requirements can be discussed separately.
  • What counts as a "Matching Contribution"?

We prioritize financial (cash) contributions from external sponsors, government grants, or chapter fundraising.

“In-kind” contributions (e.g., venue, volunteer hours) may count for a maximum of 50% of the match and must be rigorously quantified with quotes.

  • Can we apply if our chapter is <5 years old?

The applicant entity must have a 5-year track record. If your chapter is young, you may apply under the JCI National Organization or a partner Foundation’s legal umbrella with a clear MOU.

  • Can the grant cover salaries?

No. Administrative salaries are capped at 15% of the total budget. The grant is intended for direct project impact (materials, logistics, medical supplies), not overheads.

    Only for Infrastructure Project

  • Can the project already commence?

    Yes, as long as:

    • The project has at least 1 year of track record (it’s not a first-year/startup project)
    • The activities starting now are for the project’s second year (or beyond)
    • The main event and major expenses happen only after grant confirmation (expected end of April 2026)
  • Can multiple local chapters collaborate?

The second tranche (30%) will be withheld until the 30% secured matching threshold is met. If viability isn’t demonstrated, the grant may be terminated.
